Day 5

Hi Guys,
Today was cold, 45-50 with wind gusting up to 20 mph. but was real sunny.
Today we had planned to go horseback riding but found out we had to go all day. Eight hours in the saddle is too hard on my butt. Then we thought about a hot air balloon ride but it was too windy. So we decided to just go back into the park and see what we missed. Are we glad we did.

Today we traveled up and down the west side of the park.
We found it much more scenic with the lakes and all.

The first thing that grabs our attention is Grand Teton Peak.

Standing at 13,770 ft., it is the highest peak.

Here we are standing in the middle of Cottonwood Creek taking a picture both up and down stream.

Good thing we're on a bridge. That water is about 40 degrees.

Taggart Lake

The water was crystal clear but it was so cold with the wind blowing across the water we did not stay long.

String Lake: Rockchuck Peak in the background standing at 11,144 ft.

Here we are standing in front of String Lake freezing our butts off. I will bet its 80 in Florida. What you can't see is the 20 mph wind at our back coming across that water.

Jenny Lake  This is the same picture as we took yesterday but look
no ice. We couldn't believe how quickly it broke up.

Ice anyone ?

Does she look cold or what ?.....

Hey, I told her to come over and stand by me. I forgot to tell her which side.

We liked this spot. So we ate lunch here.................

Do we look cold ?

This time we are next to the car so we can get a clean getaway. This is a bull moose, one of many we saw today. This time of year they look kind of mangee. They lose their coat and horns and then grow them back before the next winter. Earlier we were watching a moose lying in a field. A coyote came over the ridge and confronted the moose. I think he thought he was hurt but when the moose started to stand the coyote was out of there. We watched this from about 100 yards so we were able to get a movie of it but not any pictures. Boy I need a big zoom lense.

These are yellow headed black birds looking for a hand out.

Don't feed the birds.

But they're hungry.

What you can't see is the cracker in her hand. There are about 10 at her feet.
While we were taking this picture all at once all of them took off like a rocket. A hawk flew in from
nowhere and nailed one of these guys. He carried him off under a tree for lunch.
I would have loved to have that on tape but it all happened in less than 3 seconds.

Grey Herons

Look, even out here on the desert. No wonder they call it a desert.

And last but not least. Prilly found someone that was hornier than me.

Thank you lord for another great day.
Heading for Yellowstone West Gate in Montana tomorrow.

Love Prilly & Ralph
